Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find a club?

Details of all classes including times and venues can be found in our club directory by clicking the Find a Class link on the main menu.
If there are no classes advertised within your area, please do not hesitate to contact us with your interests and we will strive to open classes at a location of your choice according to demand

How much does it cost?

Lesson & Training Fees are paid monthy by Standing Order bank transfer on the 1st of each month, with the following 2 options available.

How Many Classes Monthly Fee
Option 1 Training Once a Week £20 per calendar month
Option Unlimited Unlimited Training £30 per calendar month

Corporate Classes/Demonstrations: Please contact us for more details.
Private 1-2-1 Tuition: £30.00/hr
Discounted prices available for families and Black Belts holding instructors insurance
Remember your first lesson is free with no obligation to join

What do I need to wear?

When you first start, it is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows for plenty of flexibility. Long training/tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt are ideal.

Do I need a licence?

Yes, this is included in your annual membership fee of £25.00 to BDTKD.
Annual membership fee includes:
Licence and Insurance covering personal injury and public liability.

We recommend adding membership of International Taekwon-Do Federation too, which we can arrange for you, it costs $24usd for 3 years membership of ITF and is a requirement for everyone wanting to grade to Black Belt.

When do I need to get a suit, and where from?

You do not need a Taekwon-Do suit (called a dobok) to until you wish to take a grading exam for the next belt.
We wear an ITF uniform which can be purchased from your instructor or from our online shop.

How long does it take to get to Black Belt?

Everyone is different, and rate of progression through the grading system depends on how often and how hard you train; i.e, your commitment and dedication. Achieving Black Belt status can take anywhere between 2-10 years, although on average takes 3-4 years.

Can I watch before I give it a go?

Of course. Pop along to your nearest TaeKwon-Do class as a spectator and talk to one of our friendly instructors. Remember your first lesson is free so you have nothing to lose by trying Taekwon-Do anyway.
Everybody is welcome.

I am not very fit or flexible, will this stop me doing Taekwon-Do?

Not in the slightest. Our Chief Instructor, Mr Walkinshaw, was recovering from major spinal surgery when he started, after being unable to walk properly for nearly 3 years. The training is progressive and you gradually become fitter and more flexible as you train.

I have done some Taekwon-Do before, can I keep my grade?

Yes, if you trained under the International Taekwon-Do Federation (I.T.F) Syllabus. If you have not trained for a long period of time or you are joining us from a non-ITF group, we may need to re-assess you to ensure that you still meet the standards required for your previous grading.

Mini Dragons – Taekwon-Do classes for 4-6 year olds

Our exclusive program for 4-6 year olds not only teaches the basics of Taekwon-Do, but also develops focus, balance and coordination, along with the importance of exercise, all in a fun safe environment.

Our “Mini Dragons” have been noted to be more confident, focused and sociable at school, often progressing better than others. This is largely due to their improved attitude to learning and discipline gained during each Mini Dragon session through positive reward and achievement recognition.

The Mini Dragon program lasts for a full 12 months with students progressing through a series of belt grades which reflect their skills. There is also regular reward badges for various achievements throughout the course. Once a student has completed all the belt grades, even if they are still under 6, they can then move onto the more formal “Taekwon-Kids” course.

The Mini Dragons class has been integrated into our regular Wednesday class in Cuddington. Spaces are limited so please complete the form below to reserve a place for your child.

Taekwon-Kids – Our exclusive program for 6-12 year olds

It has been seen that children who acquire self confidence at an early age are far more likely to succeed in their adult ambitions.

Taekwon-Do is one of the best ways of instilling confidence into children whilst also emphasising the importance of respect and discipline. Our classes for children under the supervision of fully qualified Instructors will encourage each child to achieve his/her potential, learning new skills and making new friends.

Our “Taekwon-Kids” classes have a challenging and structured training program and will help equip each student with the knowledge and necessary skills required to ably defend themselves, whilst instilling the key values of discipline and respect.

Many of our classes are set up to cater for students of all ages, allowing families to participate in the same class, giving an opportunity for all members of a family to share the same hobby and spend quality time working together towards improving their health, fitness, and self defence skills.

Places in our classes are limited, please fill out the form below to arrange a free trial class.

This is the full unadulterated and unchanged martial art that was originally developed in the Korean military before being spread worldwide by the founder and the International Taekwon-Do Federation.

Classes feature fundamental techniques, cardio fitness, flexibility training, self defence, power breaking, competition preparation for national and international tournaments and much much more…
