3 members of the Blue Dragon competition squad took part and competed in the North West Interclub Competition today at Shaftesbury TKD on The Wirral. Miss Lyndsay Walkinshaw, Paul Chrimes and Debbie Johansson all battled it out with competitors from around the Merseyside area in Patterns and Power categories.
First up was Debbie, who despite a bird using her for target practice on the way into the venue claimed the club’s first medal of the day in her patterns section. Shortly afterward Paul matched Debbie’s Bronze medal with one of his own to make it a near perfect start to the day. Near perfect only due to a Sat Nav malfunction sending them nearly 30 miles of course!!! This left Blue Dragon’s senior student/assistant instructor Miss Walkinshaw to show why she made it to the national team for the World Championships. Sure enough, she didn’t disappoint with a truly breath taking display of grace, power and technique taking her into the final and the chance of a gold medal. However after another flawless display she had a momentary lapse of concentration which resulted in her coming away with a Silver medal.
After a short break for refreshments came the Power tests with each competitor delivering designated strikes and kick to an electronic power meter. All three of the team gave a good account of themselves but the glory went to Debbie and Miss Walkinshaw with them up against each other in the same category, winning Silver and Bronze medals respectively and taking the final total to 5 medals for the day.
